Beyond the Hotel

Leave the Boutique Hotel for a Main Street Bar & Kitchen

Hotel Monaco has its own dining and cocktails, so this isn't about pretending hotel guests have nowhere else to eat.

The reason to walk to Felt Bar & Eatery is different: to experience another locally owned downtown restaurant.

Restaurant partner Richard Romney describes Hotel Monaco as a boutique property attracting discerning leisure and business travelers and says the restaurants receive meaningful business from its guests.

Traveling Alone? Take a Bar Seat

Felt Bar & Eatery works particularly well for solo hotel guests.

The restaurant deliberately holds some bar seats and tables for walk-ins, even when online reservation availability is limited.

Order oysters. Have an elk burger. Try a cocktail from The Lab. Or settle in for a longer dinner without the formality of a traditional fine-dining room.

A Different Cocktail Experience

Hotel bars are convenient, but a short walk down Main Street gives you access to one of Felt Bar & Eatery's defining features.

The Lab generally features six to nine original cocktails developed around a changing theme.

It gives business travelers and weekend guests a reason to explore beyond the hotel rather than simply having another drink downstairs.

The Team Behind Felt Bar & Eatery

Felt Bar & Eatery brings together Chef Travis Herbert and restaurant partner Richard Romney, combining culinary creativity with decades of Salt Lake City restaurant and hospitality experience.

Chef Herbert's seasonal approach keeps Felt's menu evolving, from raw seafood preparations and shareable dishes to full dinner options.

Romney spent 17 years at acclaimed Salt Lake City restaurant Takashi, including 15 years as general manager and bar director. That experience helped shape Felt's approach to seafood, cocktails and hospitality.

Together, Herbert and Romney created a locally owned Main Street restaurant built around high-level food and drinks in an intentionally relaxed setting.

Herbert and Romney are also behind sister restaurant Brownstone 22, another downtown Salt Lake City dining destination.
